The Desktop Setup in the Park 10 Lab

In an effort to maintain a consistent desktop setup for users of Park 10, we've adopted some conventions for the use of the desktop. Individual users are expected to respect these conventions; lab monitors are expected to restore the desktop to the standard setup when discrepancies are noticed.

Folders on the Desktop

Users are expected to save their work on the desktop, in Temp Storage, or on their own floppy or zip disk.

Anything left on the desktop may be immediately deleted by another user (or moved to Temp Storage). Anything left in Temp Storage will be periodically deleted by lab monitors.

Please notify a lab monitor of any inadvertent changes you have made to other files.

Please let us know if you have suggestions for changing the conventions.

Questions

We will undoubtedly run into some problems with applications that set preferences. Lab machines usually have some way of preventing individual users from mucking with these. I'm not sure what the solution is.
