•  Ioana Butoi (left), Junior (class of 2005), Computer Science Major

•  Catherine Chiu (right), Senior (class of 2004), Computer Science Major

•  Darby Thompson (center), Junior (class of 2005), Computer Science Major

•  Professor Douglas Blank, Assistant Professor of Computer Science, Bryn Mawr College (Faculty Advisor)

Email: dblank@cs.brynmawr.edu

Relevant Background: Douglas Blank has worked on learning systems and robotics for the last decade, specifically in high-level artificial neural networks and genetically-inspired algorithms. He has participated in the AAAI Robotics Competitions for many years as an adviser to undergraduate teams. These teams have won two technical achievement awards for their research and performance in the hors d'oeuvres contest. He has also organized the Find Life on Mars, and the Treasure Hunt events at AAAI. He has taught many courses in AI, robotics, and cognitive science. In recent years he has been interested in creating tools to allow non-experts to program, explore, and experiment with robotic control algorithms. Most recently he created Pyro, the Python Robotics programming environment. He is a member of the Developmental Robotics Research Group, a collaboration between Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore Colleges .

•  Professor Deepak Kumar, Associate Professor of Computer Science, Bryn Mawr College (Faculty Advisor)

Email: dkumar@cs.brynmawr.edu

Relevant Background: Deepak Kumar's research interests lie in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, specifically in the design of architectures of intelligent agents that includes both symbolic and subsymbolic algorithms. He has taught several courses on the subject at the undergraduate level. He is a member of the Developmental Robotics Research Group, a collaborative research program between Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore Colleges . He is also a part of the Pyro development team. He has served as an advisor for two previous CREW funded projects.
